Medical Lab Tech-Reg PD

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory tests and reports results with appropriate documentation in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner, complying with laboratory policies and procedures.
• Validates test results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to ensure accurate reports for physician review; may enter data directly into the computer system.
• Performs all LIS functions within scope of responsibility, including worklists, outstanding reports, and patient registration.
• Performs quality control for all testing and ensures results meet established criteria before releasing test results.
• Recognizes factors that may affect measurements and results, taking appropriate corrective action.
• Reports low supply inventory to appropriate staff and ensures uninterrupted testing by notifying personnel when supplies fall below par level.
• Identifies instrument or equipment failures, evaluates problems, and takes action to troubleshoot or contacts internal/external personnel for corrective measures.
• Prepares samples for testing according to laboratory protocol, including preparing and labeling stains, reagents, and stock solutions.
• Maintains glassware and other materials necessary for clinical laboratory tests.
• May be required to operate a blood irradiator, which requires FBI security clearance.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Medical Technology or a related scientific field.
• For personnel trained outside the U.S., an equivalency evaluation by a nationally recognized organization (e.g., NACES, AICE) is required.
• ASCP registry or registry-eligible, or equivalent registry (e.g., NCA or CLS).
• Knowledge of laboratory science principles and basic computer skills.
• May require an FBI background check prior to employment; results must deem the individual "Trustworthy and Reliable."

Skills

• Significant manual skills, including motor coordination and finger dexterity, for daily laboratory tasks.

Physical Demands

• Prolonged standing and transporting materials.
• Troubleshooting equipment and lifting, moving, or carrying heavy objects.
