About the role

Bon Secours is a faith-based and patient-focused organization dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of all individuals through exceptional patient care. The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) plays a crucial role in ensuring patient safety and providing accurate laboratory results.

Responsibilities

  • Performs analytical tests on biological specimens in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner, adhering to documented laboratory procedures.
  • Determines the acceptability of specimens through visual inspections or recognizing abnormal/unusual results.
  • Recognizes and addresses factors that can affect measurements and results, acting according to established protocols.
  • Maintains quality control for all testing and ensures results are released only after meeting established ranges.
  • Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work areas, monitoring temperatures, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry from a CLIA-approved program.
  • Certification: MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligibility from a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP).
  • Experience: Completion of an externship program (preferred).

  • Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner.
