Medical Lab Tech II

Responsibilities

• Adhere to laboratory procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow established quality control policies and procedures, documenting all corrective actions when necessary.
• Identify and address problems affecting test performance, either independently or by notifying supervisors.
• Perform waived or complex laboratory procedures manually and using automated methods in areas such as Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, and Immunology.
• Maintain and document instrument and equipment maintenance daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed.
• Review and document the accuracy of patient results before release or reporting.
• Recognize and account for age-specific variations in test results.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are analyzed similarly to patient samples and collaborate only after reporting results to relevant authorities.
• Assist with venipuncture or capillary puncture on newborns to geriatrics as required.
• Aid in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
• Comply with department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
• In the absence of a supervisor, assume responsibility for the section or department during their shift.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the department manager or director.

Qualifications

• Current and valid state license if the laboratory is located in a state requiring one.
• ASCP certification or equivalent preferred.
• Associate’s degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of MLT coursework.
• One year of hospital laboratory work experience preferred.

Pay

Competitive compensation with a reasonable estimate of $25.54 to $25.54 per hour. Exact starting compensation will be determined at the time of selection, considering factors like skillset, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
