About the Role
This part-time MLT position involves variable 8-hour shifts at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.
Responsibilities
- Collect, process, and prepare specimens such as blood, urine, and other bodily fluids for analysis
- Perform routine and specialized tests to analyze specimens and provide data on patient health, which may include tests in hematology, chemistry, and other areas
- Interpret lab test results and ensure accuracy; enter data into laboratory information systems and prepare reports for healthcare providers
- Follow quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results, including calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment and performing routine maintenance tasks
- Adhere to hospital policies, safety regulations, and accreditation standards, including maintaining a clean and organized work environment and using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
- Occasionally interact with patients, particularly when collecting specimens, and explain procedures to ensure patient comfort and cooperation
Qualifications
- Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required
- ASCP certification, or equivalent, required within one year of employment
- Associates Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT
- 1 year of hospital laboratory work experience preferred
