About the Role
A Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs complex laboratory tests on blood, bodily fluids, and tissue samples to assist in diagnosing and treating diseases. This role involves analyzing laboratory specimens and reporting results according to established protocols and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Organize work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling, sorting specimens, and verifying specimen delivery.
- Maintain quality results by running standards and controls, and verifying equipment function through routine maintenance.
- Serve as a technical resource by participating in staff training.
- Identify and communicate abnormal patient conditions by alerting supervisory personnel.
- Determine the presence or quantity of drugs in a patient’s system.
- Provide test results for patient diagnosis and treatment by operating chemistry equipment.
- Ensure patients receive compatible blood by completing blood typing, antibody screening, and compatibility testing.
- Contribute to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
- Maintain patient confidentiality by keeping laboratory information secure.
- Educate patients and families on health issues.
Requirements
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in medical technology or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 to 10 years of medical laboratory experience.
- Possession of a clinical state license (MLT - License).
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification.
- MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) certification.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
