Medical Lab Specialist - Transfusion Medicine

Responsibilities

• Collects and analyzes data to evaluate products, procedures, processes and laboratory or program needs.
• Consults with healthcare providers and professionals regarding patient care and program issues.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines.
• Establishes and reviews procedures and policies.
• Makes recommendations on personnel performance, counseling employees and providing input into performance evaluations.
• Provides input into budgetary process by identifying capital equipment needs and anticipating laboratory or program needs.
• Teaches Clinical Laboratory Science students, Pathology residents and fellows and new employees.
• Maintains oversight of daily operations of laboratory or program.
• Reviews patient testing results, quality control, maintenance, troubleshooting and management reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of 24 semester hours of science credits.
• MLS/MT (ASCP), MT (NCA) or MT (AMT) certification required.
• Three years of experience at the medical laboratory technologist, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist level.
