Career Ladder
- MLS I: Level I is intended for candidates with less than 1 year of healthcare experience. Essential functions include performing routine laboratory testing, assisting with quality control, maintaining documentation, recognizing and communicating issues, and contributing to quality patient care outcomes.
- MLS II: Level II is intended for candidates with 1-3 years of MLS experience. Essential functions include those of Level I, plus serving as a resource to less experienced staff, assisting with new hire training, and completing projects.
- MLS III: Level III is intended for candidates with 4-6 years of MLS II experience. Essential functions include those of Levels I and II, plus assisting with SOP creation and process improvement activities.
Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, perform routine laboratory testing, report results according to established policies, assist with quality control and equipment maintenance, maintain documentation, recognize and communicate issues, and contribute to quality patient care outcomes.
Essential Functions
- Perform required competencies, proficiency testing, quality control, maintenance, and authenticate results.
- Train for new technology or testing as needed.
- Provide troubleshooting assistance and support to technical staff and vendors.
- Analyze pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical quality control and specimen requirements.
- Advise and consult with appropriate leadership or supervisors on troubleshooting, investigations, and quality control issues.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree Required
- Less than 1 year of healthcare setting experience preferred for MLS I
- At least 1-3 years of MLS experience for MLS II
- 4-6 years of MLS II experience or higher for MLS III
Licenses and Certifications
- MLSASCP-Medical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent - ASCP - American Society for Clinical Pathology
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance in QC and competency requirements
- Good communication and customer relations skills
- Teamwork and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to troubleshoot testing, equipment, and quality issues

$29.28 - $42.45 / hr
