Responsibilities

  • Accurately perform, evaluate appropriateness and report tests/analyses requested on patient specimens on all assigned routine benches.
  • Utilizes time efficiently to complete assignments and assist coworkers.
  • Completes quality control, calibration, and routine maintenance 100% of the time.
  • Complies with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines 100% of the time.
  • Accommodates patient and laboratory needs by professionally responding to requests for flexibility in duties, schedules, and staffing.
  • Documents orientation, training, and education to ensure employee competence, provide excellent services, and meet accreditation requirements through effective verbal or written communication.
  • Completes organizational and department competencies 100% of the time.
  • Evidence that new procedures and major procedure revisions are read and understood.
  • Maintains knowledge of regulatory and accreditation agency requirements and participates in quality assurance activities.
  • Proficient in performing assigned tasks and submitting results by deadlines.
  • Aids in resolving technical issues and preparing follow-up reports for proficiency tests as requested.
  • Aids in completing quality control and quality assurance activities.
  • Achieves section/organization quality goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology required.
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with a Certificate from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Medical Laboratory Science (MLS)/Medical Technology (MT)/Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) program required.
  • One year of experience in applicable sections of the laboratory is preferred.
  • Current Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent required within 6 months of hire (or previously qualified or could have qualified as a technologist under CFR 493.1491 on or before February 28, 1992).

  • Knowledge of medications and treatments used in patient care.
  • Skill in critical thinking for determining alternative solutions or solving problems.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for positive interaction with staff and customers.
  • Skilled in operating a computer, including a computer mouse and keyboard.
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Able to work in a diverse environment.
  • Able to work as a team.
  • Able to keep patient information confidential.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend various written reports and documents.
