Medical Lab Scientist, Microbiology

About the Role

The Medical Technologist performs laboratory testing, understands the clinical significance of results, monitors and operates instrumentation, and reports results accurately and rapidly.

Responsibilities

• Performs all clinical testing in assigned department.
• Records and reports test results accurately and promptly.
• Performs and interprets quality control testing following established guidelines.
• Maintains a high level of quality assurance.
• Practices established safety procedures, including Universal Precautions and proper use of safety equipment.
• Recognizes problems, follows prescribed strategies, and makes necessary corrections.
• Makes decisions in the absence of established criteria, consulting with supervisor/manager when needed.
• Coordinates and evaluates new reagents, procedures, and equipment as requested by supervisor/manager.
• Performs routine scheduled and specialized maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology preferred; Associate's Degree accepted.
• Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent; eligible for certification.
• If applicable, must maintain active certification.
