About the role

The Medical Laboratory Scientist II performs waived and non-waived testing under general supervision, adhering to departmental standard operating procedures. This role may also serve as a General Supervisor, overseeing laboratory operations, personnel, and reporting. Responsibilities include specimen processing, test performance, quality control, staff training, competency assessment, and inventory management.

Responsibilities

  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, test analyses, reporting, and record maintenance.
  • Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are handled identically to patient samples.
  • Adhere to quality control policies, documenting activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
  • Follow corrective action policies when test systems deviate from established performance levels.
  • Identify and address problems affecting test performance or reporting, notifying supervisors as needed.
  • Document corrective actions for test system deviations.
  • Supervise assigned workstations, including QC review, staff training, competency assessment, and inventory management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Sciences required.
  • Certificate/Diploma in Clinical Laboratory Sciences required.
  • Medical Technologist certification (ASCP) [MLT, MT, MLA, Histologists] required.
  • 1-2 years of laboratory experience required.

  • Basic knowledge of federal, state, and accreditation requirements.

Pay

Starting rate: $32.37/hour. Pay range: $26.63 - $38.70/hour, based on skills, experience, education, and certifications.

Schedule

  • Day shift, no weekends or holidays required.
  • Flexible 38-hour workweek: 8 hours for 4 days and 6 hours on a chosen day.
