Medical Lab Scientist II (Part Time)-Core Lab

This role ensures the prompt and precise execution, validation, and reporting of laboratory tests for medical analysis, manages the technical aspects of a specific lab section including quality control and equipment, coordinates shift workflows, and contributes to research and development under supervision, while maintaining compliance and quality documentation in accordance with CLIA requirements.

Responsibilities

• Execute and oversee test life-cycle activities within assigned area (e.g., execution, validation, and reporting of medical lab results; storage, distribution/shipping of specimens and material; tissue governance).
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to discuss test results and provide necessary support and guidance.
• Participate in research and development activities, staying updated on advancements in laboratory techniques and technologies/procedures.
• Perform verification and validation planning for new equipment and assays.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, conduct quality control, troubleshoot issues, and perform routine maintenance.
• Support ongoing lab inventory planning, monitoring, and management.
• Oversee compliance with safety and infection control protocols within assigned area.
• Maintain accurate documentation of test procedures, results, and quality control data.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance, consistently meeting job expectations and adhering to policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology/medical lab science or in one of the biological, chemical, or physical sciences, plus completion of a medical laboratory technologist training program required.
• Master's degree in Clinical Lab Science preferred.
• 4+ years of medical laboratory experience required. (Exception: Master's degree in Clinical Lab Science with 2+ years of experience.)
• 2 years of relevant clinical medical laboratory technician experience may be considered for 1 year of medical technologist experience.
• Experience in lab equipment operations, medical technology techniques, and execution of specialized lab test procedures.
• Experience in data collection and analysis.
• Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) from ASCP, NRCC, ABB, or ASCPi required within six months of hire if not licensed in Tennessee as a medical laboratory professional.
• Acceptable licenses: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Supervisor-General or Categorical Supervisor, Special Analyst, or Categorical Technologist in assigned laboratory section.

Schedule

• Part-time position assigned to the Core Laboratory.
• Scheduled to work three 8-hour day shifts or 16 hours per two-week pay period.
• Flexibility required; scheduled workdays and hours may vary based on operational needs.
• Position will rotate weekend and holiday coverage.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $31.50 - $55.00 per hour.
