Medical Lab Assistant / Phlebotomist

Responsibilities

• Affix specimens in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
• Communicate pertinent patient or laboratory sample information to appropriate care providers.
• Follow proper protocols for specimen packaging and transport.
• Register patients, order lab tests, receive, accession, process, and distribute specimens according to protocol.
• Practice proper infection control, patient identification, and prompt specimen transport.
• Collect and process drug screens as assigned.
• Maintain a phlebotomy draw list and dispatch phlebotomists as needed.
• Perform courier duties as required.
• Conduct laboratory tests in compliance with established policies and procedures.
• Prepare laboratory equipment for testing as necessary.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• BLS certification within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role, and prior to providing direct patient care.
• Certification from a nationally recognized agency as a phlebotomist, or as a medical lab assistant within 2 years of hire date (preferred).
• Experience working in a clinical setting (preferred).
