Responsibilities
- Affix specimens in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
- Communicate pertinent patient or laboratory sample information to appropriate care providers.
- Follow proper protocols for specimen packaging and transport.
- Register patients, order lab tests, receive, accession, process, and distribute specimens according to protocol.
- Practice proper infection control, patient identification, and prompt specimen transport.
- Collect and process drug screens as assigned.
- Maintain a phlebotomy draw list and dispatch phlebotomists as needed.
- Perform courier duties as required.
- Conduct laboratory tests in compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Prepare laboratory equipment for testing as necessary.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- BLS certification within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role, and prior to providing direct patient care.
- Certification from a nationally recognized agency as a phlebotomist, or as a medical lab assistant within 2 years of hire date (preferred).
- Experience working in a clinical setting (preferred).
