Novant Health Hilton Head Medical Center is looking for a Medical Lab Assistant II to join the team!

About the role

Shift: Friday-Sunday, 5a-5pm

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens, including order entry, specimen verification, centrifugation, and aliquoting
• Accurately receive, label, and prepare specimens for testing while maintaining strict quality and safety standards
• Perform phlebotomy as needed, ensuring proper patient identification and collection techniques
• Support laboratory operations by managing worklists, tracking specimens, and ensuring timely turnaround
• Communicate effectively with clinical staff to resolve specimen or order issues
• Maintain compliance with all laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
• Assist with training and onboarding of new team members as needed
• Contribute to a safe, efficient, and patient-focused lab environment

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, required
• One year of relevant phlebotomy and/or specimen processing /laboratory experience, preferred
• Phlebotomy Certification - ASCP, NHA, ASPT, AMT or a national accrediting agency approved by Laboratory Senior, required
• Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tasks
• Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results
• Ability to follow written protocols
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to communicate clearly

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results
• Ability to anticipate and react calmly to emergency situations
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff and the public

Skills

• For facilities where Phlebotomy is a requirement of the role, the certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
