Medical Director (Psychiatry)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and mentorship to Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) and other clinical staff.
  • Deliver outpatient psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing patient care.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based behavioral health services.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain clinical policies, procedures, and treatment protocols.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes, documentation standards, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support staff development, training, and clinical best practices.
  • Oversee assessments, treatment planning, referrals, admissions, and discharge processes.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, Medicaid, HIPAA, and behavioral health regulations.
  • Participate in audits, accreditation reviews, chart audits, and corrective action planning.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, healthcare providers, and community partners.
  • Support crisis intervention, substance use treatment initiatives, and overdose prevention efforts.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Active New York State Medical License.
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry.
  • Current DEA Registration.
  • Active NPI Number.
  • Strong knowledge of behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, and trauma-informed care.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Psychiatry, Behavioral Health, or Substance Use Disorder treatment.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership or supervisory experience managing multidisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Previous outpatient behavioral health experience preferred.
  • Data 2000 Waiver / Buprenorphine Certification.
  • Experience with Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs).
  • OMH and/or OASAS program experience.

Practice Environment

  • Outpatient setting serving patients across the lifespan.
  • Combination of clinical care and administrative leadership responsibilities.
  • Oversight of a multidisciplinary team, including PMHNPs and nursing staff.
  • No evenings, weekends, or on-call responsibilities.

Schedule

Full-Time
Flexible scheduling within operating hours:
Monday - Thursday: 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
No nights, weekends, or on-call requirements.
