About the role
The Medical Director of Occupational Medicine leads the Center for Occupational Safety & Health (COSH), an AOEC member clinic. This role provides outpatient care for Denver Health employees, the City and County of Denver, and others. The position is 0.2 FTE administrative and the remaining FTE clinical, with administrative work performed on-site to maintain clinic staffing and oversight of advanced practice providers, residents, and fellows. The integration between Denver Health and the University of Colorado School of Public Health includes a shared residency program and an ACGME-accredited fellowship.
The provider team consists of 2.4 FTE providers, 1.0 FTE physical therapists, one chiropractor, and allied and support staff.
Responsibilities
- Direct oversight of physicians, nurse practitioners, residents, fellows, students, chiropractors, and physical therapists (20%).
- Maintain an active occupational medicine practice (40%).
- Participate in clinical quality initiatives focused on patient experience, safety, outcomes, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility (5%).
- Work with the Director of Service to oversee clinic operations, including productivity, quality of care, patient experience, and staff/provider engagement (5%).
- Align performance with Denver Health strategic pillars (5%).
- Assist in recruiting clinical professionals (5%).
- Collaborate with risk management for major clients (Denver Health and the City of Denver) to detect injury trends and develop best practices according to Colorado’s Workers’ Compensation medical treatment guidelines (5%).
- Oversee Occupational Health initiatives and collaborate across departments on ventures such as Tuberculosis surveillance, Latent TB surveillance, Hazardous materials Emergency Response Team readiness, High Risk Infection Team vaccination protocols, and relations with the City and County of Denver (15%).
Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine from an accredited school.
- Board Eligible/Certified in Occupational Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Sports Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or a related specialty.
- Level II Certification at time of hire.
- 3 years of occupational health clinical experience with demonstrated leadership and initiative at the clinic level or oversight of advanced practice providers.
- BLS/CPR certification (AHA or American Red Cross).
Skills
- Thorough knowledge of Colorado Workers’ Compensation Medical Treatment Guidelines.
- Ability to manage and direct medical provider support activities while delivering quality care.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with diverse educational, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Critical thinking, analytical, and teaching/coaching skills.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and act on clinical and financial data.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, and social skills.

Pay
$250,800.00 - $285,100.00 per year (for 1.0 FTE; actual pay adjusted based on FTE).
Schedule
Regular (0.9 FTE), primarily Monday-Friday.
