Position Summary

The Medical Director role at Optimus Health Care combines administrative and clinical responsibilities, with 25% of time focused on administration and 75% on direct patient care. This role involves supporting clinicians and clinical teams, setting the tone for clinical practice, and ensuring the smooth delivery of care.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Clinical Informatics Clinician Specialist and Transition Clinician(s) to develop and optimize EPIC workflows for patient documentation and in-basket tasks.
  • Ensure adequate clinician staffing at all clinical sites through collaboration with Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, and Practice Manager.
  • Monitor clinician clinical performance, including conducting Peer Review activities and ensuring productivity targets are met.
  • Support the Chief Quality & Transformation Officer in quality and comprehensive medical care delivery and development, including assisting with patient billing.
  • Provide clinical guidance and support to clinical staff in the absence of the Chief Medical, Health & Wellness Officer.
  • Advocate for organizational initiatives and demonstrate the ability to balance clinical and administrative priorities.

Job Qualifications/Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
  • Knowledge of modern principles and techniques of general medicine and public health.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of multi-tasking.
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for medical care.
  • Efficient use of electronic medical records, particularly EPIC.
  • Supervisory and training abilities in the area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of relevant drugs and patient care aids, and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Education & Experience

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school and licensing as a physician; or advanced doctoral degree (e.g., DNP, DMSc) with relevant professional experience for the school-Based Health Center role.
  • Master’s degree preferred in Health Administration (MHA) or Public Health (MPH).
  • Three to five years of clinical management experience required in a community healthcare setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience in relevant areas(s) of medical specialty and clinical operations.

Languages & Certifications

  • Bilingual English, Spanish desirable but not required.
  • Current unrestricted Connecticut License to practice medicine as an MD or DO; or Nurse Practitioner or PA license and documentation of advanced doctoral degree for the school-Based Health Center role.
  • Active Federal DEA and Controlled Substance Registration.
  • Certified in a specified area of medical specialty if applicable.
  • Current CPR certification and ACLS certification required.
