    Why Does the Job Exist?

    Provides specialty medical care to all rehabilitation patients at New Mexico Rehabilitation Center. Serves as Medical Director overseeing, evaluating, recommending, and supporting all medical services and programming in the hospital. Provides medical consultation and care coordination with all departments including external stakeholders. Assists the Hospital Administrator in program development, enhancement, and service sustainment. Follows federal, state, and regulatory bodies' rules and regulations pertaining to specialty hospitals and rehabilitation.

    How Is It Done?

    • Performs History & Physicals, Care Plans, Team Conferences, daily rounds, and patient visits on the MRU unit and assists on CDU unit for coverage.
    • Provides on-call support.
    • Adheres to NMRC & DOH policies & procedures, Joint Commission, and CMS regulatory accreditation requirements.
    • Attends and actively participates in NMRC committees such as Policy Committee, Infection Control, Medical Records & Utilization Review, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement, and Medical Executive Committee.
    • Reviews and approves referrals on both units and assists administration in maintaining adequate census on MRU and CDU.

    Who Are the Customers?

    NMRC is a specialty hospital treating patients and clients with chemical dependency and medical rehabilitation needs. Ideal candidates must have a current medical license in NM, experience working with adult post-acute patients, and board certification in psychiatry, obstetrics/gynecology, internal medicine, family practice, general surgery, or emergency medicine. They must also have an active controlled substance license and DEA registration in New Mexico and six years of relevant experience.

    Employment Requirements

    • This position is designated as safety-sensitive.
    • Must successfully complete a post-offer pre-employment criminal records background check, pending results.
    • Must comply with pre-employment and random alcohol/drug testing in accordance with federal and state laws.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
    • Must pass the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) test.

    Working Conditions

    • Work in a rehabilitation hospital setting.
    • Exposure to VDT, extensive personal computer, and phone usage.
    • Long periods of walking, sitting, standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
    • Exposure to potentially violent patients in a volatile situation.
    • May be required to work weekends, holidays, and overtime.
    • Some travel may be required.
