Medical Director/Attending Physician

Part-time (2–3 days per week) on-site position collaborating with Nurse Practitioners to care for skilled-nursing residents in sub-acute rehab and long-term-care units.

About the role

The Medical Director/Attending Physician promotes good health practices and works as a member of the medical staff to provide high-quality, patient-centered, comprehensive primary care by rounding on patients in SNFs and rehabs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Medical Director for skilled-nursing facilities/rehabs, participating in administrative and quality initiatives for assigned facilities.
  • Attend and participate in monthly quality-assurance/regulatory meetings and quarterly staff meetings.
  • Participate in quality-improvement initiatives, provide guidance to facility staff, oversee clinical care plans, ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and supervise facility clinical staff.
  • Collaborate with Nurse Practitioners to manage daily care for each resident; each facility has a full-time NP assigned based on patient acuity and volume.

Requirements

  • Valid medical license in the state of practice.
  • Valid DEA/Controlled Substance License in the state of practice.
  • Completion of a U.S. residency program.
  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with on-site staff.
  • Effective communication skills with the geriatric or Medicare population.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with email, the internet, and healthcare-related software.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent movement inside facilities and brisk walking to see patients, meet with managers/facility staff, and attend to patient needs.
  • Ability to document in an EMR system on a laptop computer.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs in a facility.
  • Ability to position oneself to obtain records, tools, medical equipment, and other items located below the knee or above the shoulder.
  • Effective communication in English with patients, nurse practitioners, and facility staff.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Perform essential functions of the position satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation.
