Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing all complaints filed against licensees involving the inappropriate prescribing of controlled substances.
- Making threshold determinations on violations; advising board investigators in conjunction with the Office of General Counsel;
- Performing detailed review of medical charts;
- Consulting with the Office of General Counsel in issuing positions on appropriate disciplinary parameters.
- Assisting with initial pain clinic licensure and renewals;
- Collaborating with the Controlled Substance Monitoring Database (CSMD) Committee to utilize CSMD information to comply with legislative mandates;
- Interacting with the Board of Medical Examiners, Board of Nursing, Board of Pharmacy, and other applicable boards concerning prescribing;
- Working with the Office of General Counsel to advise on the promulgation of rules;
- Collaborating with other state departments with regard to the misuse of controlled substances;
- Conducting literature reviews/research to inform policy relative to prescribing.
- Supervising the APRN prescribing consultant and the pain clinic licensure team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Licensed and practicing for at least 5 years as a medical doctor or osteopathic physician in Tennessee.
- Experience in prescribing controlled substances.
- Certified Addiction Specialist (Preferred).
- Certified Pain Management Specialist (Preferred).
