Key Responsibilities

• Reviewing all complaints filed against licensees involving the inappropriate prescribing of controlled substances.
• Making threshold determinations on violations; advising board investigators in conjunction with the Office of General Counsel;
• Performing detailed review of medical charts;
• Consulting with the Office of General Counsel in issuing positions on appropriate disciplinary parameters.
• Assisting with initial pain clinic licensure and renewals;
• Collaborating with the Controlled Substance Monitoring Database (CSMD) Committee to utilize CSMD information to comply with legislative mandates;
• Interacting with the Board of Medical Examiners, Board of Nursing, Board of Pharmacy, and other applicable boards concerning prescribing;
• Working with the Office of General Counsel to advise on the promulgation of rules;
• Collaborating with other state departments with regard to the misuse of controlled substances;
• Conducting literature reviews/research to inform policy relative to prescribing.
• Supervising the APRN prescribing consultant and the pain clinic licensure team.

Minimum Qualifications

• Licensed and practicing for at least 5 years as a medical doctor or osteopathic physician in Tennessee.
• Experience in prescribing controlled substances.
• Certified Addiction Specialist (Preferred).
• Certified Pain Management Specialist (Preferred).
