Medical Coordinator

About the role

The Medical Coordinator at VisionQuest plays a pivotal role in ensuring the health and wellbeing of unaccompanied children under ORR care. They collaborate with medical providers to deliver the best possible health services and timely medical interventions.

Responsibilities

• Stay knowledgeable on local, state, and federal policies and procedures regarding medical coordination and services for Unaccompanied Children under ORR care.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and ensure proper maintenance of medical files on each admission.
• Ensure proper daily documentation in VisionQuest database and ORR-UC Portal and maintain hard copy of required documents and medical records.
• Evaluate, facilitate, and oversee all aspects of the unaccompanied children’s medical care, emphasizing disease prevention and health upkeep.
• Ensure timely medical, dental, and other related services are provided to children with local providers within ORR’s and state licensing timelines.
• Schedule and provide transportation to children on medical appointments with assistance from program staff, as needed.
• Collaborate with health professionals to ensure health and safety standards, including licensing, disease reporting, immunizations, injury prevention, and medication management for out-of-home childcare, along with awareness of community health and mental health resources for children.
• May attend medical, dental, and mental health appointments, when applicable and needed to support the medical department or for children with complex medical needs.
• Support the medical providers staff during appointments examination procedures when needed.
• Ability to dispense over the counter and prescribed medication to children according to VisionQuest’s self-administration of medication policy and procedure.
• Immediately respond and comply with individual emergency medical needs of children in care.
• Educate and counsel children concerning their disease, treatment, and prevention of disease, as well as informing staff when appropriate.
• Ensure professional conduct when interacting with stakeholders, building strong partnerships.
• Attend all departmental and program meetings to ensure that up-to-date information is received and/or information of policy changes or practice are adhered to.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of employment in public healthcare setting with demonstrated experience in care coordination, health administration, or direct clinical care.
• Any of the following: Licensed practical or vocational nurse (LPN/LVN), Higher health-related qualification (Licensed Registered Nurse), Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• License to practice must be current and accepted in the state of employment.
• Supervisory experience.
• Experience as a medical coordinator in a UC shelter setting is highly preferred.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
• Flexible schedule (evening, weekends, holidays) to facilitate program services.
• Clearly tuberculosis test results.
• Must be able to pass a drug test.
• Must be able to provide proof of required vaccinations.
• Cleared background checks from appropriate entities, including Child Abuse and Neglect and FBI criminal background.
• Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive to facilitate program services as required.
• Maintain current LVN/LPN Licensure in the practicing state.

Pay

The Pay Range For This Role Is 27.40 - 27.40 USD per hour.
