MEDICAL CONSULTANT I, DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES

Under the direction of the Team Manager (TM)(DESA I), the Medical Consultant (MC), in conjunction with Disability Evaluation Analyst staff, adjudicates applications for disability benefits under the Social Security, Supplemental Security Income and/or Medi-Cal programs.

The MC is a full participant on the team and is involved in decision-making regarding team endeavors related to the team's quality, workflow, and production.

Responsibilities

• Reviews case histories, evaluates and interprets medical reports, and evaluates possible effects of medical or surgical treatment in relationship to program requirements
• Provides assessments of the applicant's functional abilities based on program guidelines

Requirements

• Background Investigation clearance prior to being hired
• Federal fingerprint clearance and background check (criminal record checks of prospective full- or part-time CDSS, Disability Determination Service Division (DDSD) personnel will be conducted)
• Submission of fingerprints for Federal processing (Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12)
• Subject to Social Security Administration hiring authority
• Must provide proof of residence in California prior to being eligible for appointment (candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview, but must provide proof of residence prior to appointment)

Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility (attach your letter, if available). Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification(s).

Pay

• Range A: $13,372.00 - $18,342.00
• Range B: $14,017.00 - $19,232.00
• Range C: $14,425.00 - $19,790.00

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
