About the role

The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Medical Case Worker I vacancies related to the Department of Justice (DOJ) Consent Decree. These positions involve providing services to patients and clients in various healthcare settings.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients/clients, family members, and friends to gather information about their home environment, family relationships, and personality traits.
  • Assist patients and family members with environmental difficulties.
  • Keep informed of community, mental health, and welfare resources and programs.
  • Participate in medical and psychiatric team meetings to share social information and evaluations.
  • Place patients with medical and/or psychiatric needs in appropriate facilities based on recommendations from the Psychiatric and Medical Staff.
  • Assist in the initial interview of new patients/clients at mental health clinics, identifying the nature of their problems and making referrals to the psychiatric team or external clinics.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Social Work, or Psychology.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation.

Physical Class II – Light

Light physical effort including occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.
