About the Opportunity

The Medical Billing Team Lead oversees daily medical billing operations within the Revenue Cycle Management team while leading a remote team of Billing Associates. This role ensures accurate, compliant, and timely claims processing, collections, and denial management while supporting process improvements and patient financial experiences.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support a remote team of Billing Associates, managing workloads and providing guidance.
• Onboard and train new billing staff on coding, claims, and payer-specific workflows.
• Conduct quality audits and provide coaching to improve claim accuracy and clean claim rates.
• Monitor team performance and address issues proactively.
• Manage claims submission, coding accuracy, and payer compliance.
• Serve as an escalation point for complex claims, denials, and payer disputes.
• Track accounts receivable aging, denial trends, and collections to identify recurring issues.
• Maintain timely and accurate account and denial follow-up.
• Develop and update billing workflows and best practices.
• Monitor coding and payer policy changes and train team members accordingly.
• Support audits and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance and escalate sensitive issues appropriately.
• Provide performance reports to the Director of Revenue Cycle.
• Collaborate with related departments to resolve cross-functional issues.
• Liaise with Care Coordinators on patient financial counseling and maintain accurate account data.
• Recommend process and staffing improvements.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of medical billing experience, including 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, billing workflows, denial management, and insurance claims procedures.
• Experience with private medical practices or outpatient clinics preferred.
• Sleep Medicine and/or Durable Medical Equipment billing experience preferred.
• Familiarity with Apero or similar billing software preferred.
• Professional coding or billing certification is a plus.
• Proven ability to lead and develop remote teams.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage priorities and work independently in a remote environment.
• Interest in sleep health and patient well-being.

Pay

$75,000–$90,000 annually, depending on experience.
