About the Role

The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for managing medical billing processes, submitting claims, resolving billing issues, and ensuring accurate reimbursement for healthcare services. This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of medical billing procedures, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit medical claims to insurance companies and government payers.
  • Review claims for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with billing requirements.
  • Follow up on unpaid, denied, or rejected claims.
  • Verify patient insurance information and eligibility.
  • Post payments and update patient accounts accurately.
  • Research and resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Communicate with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients regarding billing questions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of billing activities.
  • Follow HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Stay updated on healthcare billing guidelines and payer requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; healthcare billing certification preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in medical billing, healthcare administration, revenue cycle management, or a related field.
  • Experience with medical claims processing and insurance billing is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and practice management systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.
  • Reliable internet connection and secure remote workspace.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with medical billing software such as Epic, Cerner, Kareo, Athenahealth, or similar platforms.
  • Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) credentials are a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
