About the Opportunity
The Medical Biller & Coder - Radiology is responsible for managing the billing and coding processes specific to radiology services. This role ensures accuracy in medical coding and timely reimbursement, directly impacting the financial effectiveness of the healthcare services and supporting compliance with regulations.
Responsibilities
- Process medical billing claims using ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS codes for inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Review patient records to ensure completeness for billing.
- Verify insurance coverage before claim submission.
- Follow up on unpaid claims and conduct collections as needed.
- Maintain accurate billing records and communication logs.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to resolve billing discrepancies.
- Stay current on billing regulations, coding practices, and insurance policies.
- Use medical office systems and hospital EHRs while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Prepare for and respond to audits related to radiology services.
- Track and analyze KPIs such as denial rates and days in accounts receivable.
- Support contract negotiations and manage appeals and denials.
Requirements
- Experience in medical billing and coding preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, DRG, and coding systems including ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS.
- Familiarity with hospital and outpatient records and healthcare reimbursement.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication with healthcare professionals, insurance representatives, and patients.
- Proficiency with medical office software, EHRs, and billing systems.
- Certifications in medical billing or coding preferred; advanced or specialty radiology coding credentials desirable.
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance, fraud prevention, and audit readiness.
Pay Range and Compensation Package
Pay: $25.00 to $50.00 per hour.
Position may require a two-week trial period at the standard trial rate.
