About the Opportunity

The Medical Biller & Coder - Podiatry is responsible for managing the billing and coding process specific to podiatry procedures. This role ensures accuracy in medical coding, verifies insurance coverage, follows up on unpaid claims, and supports audits and contract negotiations. The position contributes to the organization's financial health by securing appropriate reimbursement and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Process medical billing claims using ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems specific to podiatry.
• Review patient records to confirm completeness for billing.
• Verify insurance coverage and benefits before claim submission.
• Follow up on unpaid claims and manage medical collections.
• Maintain accurate records of billing transactions and communications.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to resolve billing or coding discrepancies.
• Stay informed on changes in billing regulations, coding practices, and insurance policies.
• Use medical office systems to manage billing and protect patient confidentiality.
• Prepare for and respond to payer or government audits related to podiatry services.
• Track and analyze KPIs such as denial rates and accounts receivable days.
• Support contract negotiations and handle appeals and denials related to podiatry coverage.

Requirements

• Experience in medical billing or coding, preferably in podiatry or surgical specialties.
• Knowledge of podiatry medical terminology, DRG, ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Familiarity with medical records management and reimbursement processes.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Effective communication with healthcare professionals, insurers, and patients.
• Proficiency with medical office software, EHRs, and billing systems.
• Certification in medical billing or coding is a plus; advanced or podiatry-specific credentials are highly desirable.
• Understanding of HIPAA compliance, fraud prevention, and audit readiness.

Pay Range and Compensation Package

$25.00 - $50.00 per hour. The position may require a two-week trial period at the standard trial rate.
