Medical Assisting Instructor - Residential Adjunct Faculty

Rasmussen University is seeking dynamic Part-Time Adjunct instructors to teach within the Medical Assisting program. Share your passion for Surgical Technology and help prepare the next generation of Medical Assistants. Training is provided—no prior teaching experience is necessary.

About the role

Adjunct faculty members report to an Academic Dean and are responsible for communicating with students and supervising Deans or other University staff related to teaching and learning. Faculty will be assigned up to 3 work units per academic quarter.

Responsibilities

• Communicate both verbally and in writing with students regarding feedback on performance consistently throughout the course
• Be available for students via phone, email, and individual appointments for academic assistance as outlined in the Faculty Expectations
• Respond to Dean/University staff regarding performance, student issues, or accreditation needs in a timely manner
• Maintain appropriate behavior, language, professional communication, demeanor, and dress at all times
• Teaching Effectiveness:
  • Use effective teaching strategies and multiple techniques to create a dynamic, active classroom
  • Create high levels of student engagement through activities, community building, and student-centered learning, including synchronous sessions
  • Ensure clarity, relevance, and connection of class objectives to course performance objectives
  • Maintain an organized classroom and efficient use of class time
  • Demonstrate mastery of subject matter and ability to articulate and relate content to students
  • Play an integral role in the development and implementation of curriculum and assessment
• Student and University Support and Professionalism:
  • Create a classroom presence that supports student success in collaboration with the Dean
  • Provide outreach and support to help students achieve learning objectives through synchronous or asynchronous communication
• Attend faculty meetings, programmatic meetings, and committee work as designated by the Dean
• Complete a minimum of six (6) Rasmussen Educational Units (REUs) annually or two (2) REUs per quarter for professional development in Teaching Development and Development in Discipline

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of study (teaching experience preferred)
• Clinical preceptor experience preferred
• Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, leadership, and peers
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Assisting or related healthcare field
• One of the following credentials with specified experience:
  • CMA with 2+ years of experience in ambulatory, outpatient, or clinic settings
  • RMA, NCMA, CCMA, LPN, or RN with 3+ years of experience in ambulatory, outpatient, clinic, or hospital settings, including phlebotomy and administrative duties
• Active and unencumbered professional license/certification required for specialized schools (Health Sciences, Nursing)
• Must provide official transcripts for each degree earned from an accredited institution before teaching
• Must adhere to Rasmussen University’s faculty immunization policy and provide proper documentation
