Position Summary

Engages students in the teaching/learning process; works assigned schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include

  • Plans and teaches courses that fulfill the current curriculum goals and objectives.
  • Remains current with subject matter and instructional methodology.
  • Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
  • Communicates progress in the course to students in a timely manner.
  • Determines and submits students' grades in accordance with established College policies and procedures.
  • Takes Patient Vital Signs
  • Takes Medical Histories
  • Prepares Patients for Medical Tests and Examinations
  • Assists Physicians During Examinations
  • Explains Medical Procedures to Patients
  • Sterilizes Medical Instruments
  • Removing Sutures
  • Calling Prescriptions in to Pharmacies
  • Preparing Patients for X-Rays
  • Administering Topical, Oral, or Intramuscular Medications
  • Filling Out Insurance Forms
  • Filing Patient Medical Records
  • Maintaining the Confidentiality of Patient Information
  • Managing inventory and ordering supplies
  • Scheduling Patient Medical Procedures
  • Following Up on Patient Visits
  • Updating Patient Charts
  • Ordering Lab Tests
  • Billing Patients
  • Working with Insurance Companies
  • Managing Petty Cash
  • Answering Phones
  • Greeting Patients
  • Sorting Mail
  • Handling Correspondence
  • Filing
  • Typing Documents
  • Performing Computer Data Entry
  • Handling Billing and Bookkeeping Tasks

Program Area Responsibilities (as applicable)

Responsible for teaching, lecture and lab-based classes in various teaching modes (traditional, hybrid, and on-line) related to the field of medical assistant.

Education and/or Work Experience

  • Certified Medical Assistant/ Registered Medical Assistant
  • Associate Degree in related field preferred
  • Has worked in an Ambulatory care setting for a minimum of 2 years
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to effectively communicate one-on-one, in small groups, and in classroom situations.
  • Proficient in word-processing and presentation software, internet, and e-mail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of students.
  • Capability to teach in more than one discipline.
  • Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work a combination of days/evening/weekend schedules.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Certified Medical Assistant/ Registered Medical Assistant
  • American Heart Association BLS CPR
