The Medical Assistant works closely with the physician in the office clinical setting, assists with direct patient care, and serves as the clinical liaison between physician and patient and between physician and the office staff. The role includes providing radiology functions and promoting communications among all care providers, patients, and office staff regarding the care plan for the patient as defined by the attending physician. The individual attends to patients utilizing age-appropriate principles of growth and development for patients of all ages.
Responsibilities
Clinical Functions
- Taking patients to rooms
- Greeting patients
- Obtaining vital signs
- Assisting with medical procedures
- Performing phlebotomy
- Obtaining lab specimens
- Calculating and administering medications and vaccinations
- Adhering to safety and infection guidelines
Administrative Functions
- Scheduling appointments
- Answering phones
- Clerical and computer work
- Prior authorizations
- Billing and coding
- Maintaining electronic medical records (EMR)
- Faxing
- Disability and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) paperwork
Requirements
- Graduate of a medical assistant program or one year as a Medical Assistant
- One of the following credentials: LXMO, LXMOT, RAD, or RADT. Must obtain RAD within 6 months of hire if currently holding RADT.
Qualifications (Desired)
- One year as a Medical Assistant
- Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology
- Certified Medical Assistant
