This role combines administrative and clinical duties under the direct supervision of a medical provider—physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner—in a medical office setting. The Medical Assistant works closely with the physician, assists with direct patient care, serves as the clinical liaison between physician and patient, and provides radiology functions. The incumbent promotes communication among all care providers, patients, and office staff regarding the care plan defined by the attending physician, while adhering to age-appropriate principles of growth and development for patients of all ages.

Responsibilities

Clinical Functions

• Taking patients to rooms
• Greeting patients and obtaining vital signs
• Assisting with medical procedures
• Performing phlebotomy and obtaining lab specimens
• Calculating and administering medications and vaccinations
• Adhering to safety and infection guidelines

Administrative Functions

• Scheduling appointments
• Answering phones and performing clerical & computer work
• Handling prior authorizations
• Billing and coding
• Maintaining electronic medical records (EMR)
• Faxing documents
• Completing Disability and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) paperwork

Qualifications

Required

• Graduate of a medical assistant program or one year of experience as a Medical Assistant
• One of the following credentials: LXMO, LXMOT, RAD, or RADT (must obtain RAD within 6 months of hire if currently holding RADT)

Desired

• One year of experience as a Medical Assistant
• Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology
• Certified Medical Assistant
