The Medical Assistant with X-ray performs administrative and clinical duties under the direct supervision of a medical provider—physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner—in the medical office setting. The role serves as the clinical liaison between physician and patient, and between physician and office staff, and includes radiology functions.
The incumbent promotes communication among all care providers, patients, and office staff regarding the care plan as defined by the attending physician, attending to patients of all ages according to practice guidelines.
Responsibilities
Clinical Functions
- Taking patients to rooms
- Greeting patients
- Obtaining vital signs
- Assisting with medical procedures
- Performing phlebotomy
- Obtaining lab specimens
- Calculating and administering medications and vaccinations
- Adhering to safety and infection guidelines
Administrative Functions
- Scheduling appointments
- Answering phones
- Clerical and computer work
- Prior authorizations
- Billing and coding
- Maintaining electronic medical records (EMR)
- Faxing
- Disability and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) paperwork
Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of a medical assistant program or one year as a Medical Assistant
- One of the following credentials: LXMO, LXMOT, RAD, or RADT (must obtain RAD within 6 months of hire if currently hold RADT)
Desired
- One year as a Medical Assistant
- Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology
- Certified Medical Assistant
