About the Role
The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care duties, including assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Responsibilities include interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (e.g., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), venipuncture, and procedures as directed by the physician within the scope of practice in the State. Documentation is recorded in the Electronic Medical Record in accordance with IPM guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Assist in examination and treatment of patients under physician direction
- Interview patients and measure vital signs (pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, height)
- Perform venipuncture and procedures as directed by the physician
- Document patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations
- Assist in front desk coverage as required
- Perform end-of-day cash balancing and charge reconciliation (according to clinic protocol)
- Check patients in and out according to clinic protocol
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion and/or one year of experience as a Medical Assistant
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Experience with patient check-in and check-out processes
- Knowledge of general medical office procedures
Skills
- Proficiency in basic computer programs and operating systems (e.g., Microsoft Office)
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
- Ability to perform courteously and professionally in all interactions
- Experience operating office equipment (fax, copier, telephone system) and patient care testing equipment (e.g., EKG machine)
