Medical Assistant Urgent Care

Founded in 1999, Progressive Community Health Centers is an independent non-profit organization that operates four clinic locations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. More than 100 employees support our agency's mission to improve the health and quality of life of the community by providing culturally competent services that address identified needs. We provide high-quality, comprehensive care to roughly 16,000 patients annually, a majority of whom are low-income. No one is ever turned away from our clinics based on insurance status or ability to pay. About the role

Works under the Practice Manager to support medical staff with patient exams and treatment by performing clinical tasks. Keeps rooms ready, operates equipment, and administers injections and specimen handling.

Responsibilities

• Assist and support staff, patients, and the community.
• Inform scheduled patients of any delays due to physician's lateness, emergencies, schedule backup, etc.
• Anticipate the need for assessment and monitoring of patients prior to and during examination, treatment, emergency, acute illness, or procedure.
• Provide a caring environment and deal empathetically with patients' needs and questions.
• Greet, assess, and interview patients; obtain past medical, surgical history, family history, social history, and complete set of vital signs.
• Review current medications, allergy history, and chief complaint.
• Act as liaison between provider and patient.
• Prepare and assist patients for examination/treatment by medical staff.
• Maintain patient confidentiality.
• Obtain vital signs, perform audiograms, phlebotomy (butterfly, venous, heel stick), specimen collection, injections/immunizations, EKGs, CLIA-waived point-of-care testing, nebulizer treatments, and administer medications.

Requirements

• Knowledge of injection levels and procedures for both children and adults.
• Knowledge of universal precautions and bloodborne pathogens.
• Ability to document clearly patient vital signs and chief complaints.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and professional image.

Schedule

Full-time position requiring working weekends.
