About the Role
NextCare Urgent Care is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Medical Assistant to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. We prioritize customer-friendly and passionate employees as we grow, with a focus on delivering top-tier care to patients.
Responsibilities
- Assist providers with exams, including taking patient vitals, procedures, and other direct patient care tasks under provider supervision and within the scope of practice.
- Administer medications per policy and provider direction, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Perform blood draws as directed by the provider.
- Collect urine samples for testing, including employer drug screens.
- Perform splinting and casting.
- Conduct various physicals, such as sports physicals.
- Provide urgent care-specific procedures, including ear lavage, wound care, and oxygen administration.
- Report unusual patient occurrences, including medication events, via incident reports.
- Notify the Clinic Manager promptly of any patient or employee safety concerns.
- Follow laboratory and clinical accreditation policies and guidelines.
- Demonstrate proficiency in EMR/EHR systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned or described by company policy.
Medical Assistants may also support Front Office Reception by:
- Keeping patients and families informed of wait times.
- Monitoring patient flow.
- Processing patients for discharge, including preparing charges, collecting payments, obtaining signatures, and issuing receipts.
Impact
The Medical Assistant ensures smooth clinic operations and optimal patient flow while delivering respectful, dignified care. They support both front-office and back-office functions to meet patient needs effectively.
Requirements
Arizona:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an APPROVED (accredited) Medical Assistant training program.
- OR completion of an UNAPPROVED (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program AND a National Certification through one of the following:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) – Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
- American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- National Healthcareer Association (NHA) – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
All Other States:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an APPROVED (accredited) Medical Assistant training program.
- OR completion of an UNAPPROVED (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program AND a National Certification through one of the following:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) – Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
- American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- National Healthcareer Association (NHA) – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
- OR completion of an UNAPPROVED Medical Assistant training program AND one (1) year of employment as a Medical Assistant post-program.
- OR verifiable work experience directly supervised by a Provider or Physician Group for a minimum of 2,000 hours or 1 year.
Other Medical Assistant education or experience may be considered upon review and approval from our Compliance and Regulatory department.
