About the Role
A professional multi-skilled individual dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice, including administrative and clinical procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician.
Responsibilities
- Take patient's vital signs.
- Prepare patients for the provider's care.
- Assist with patient examinations or treatments.
- Correctly document all entries in the medical record, either electronic or hard copy, to include signature, date, and time.
- Administer medication as directed by and under the direct supervision of a licensed physician.
- Observe and report patients' signs or symptoms.
- Collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by the provider.
- Administer basic first aid.
- Participate in performance improvement projects.
- Act as an active care team member in the coordination of patient care.
- Provide a standard of excellence in customer service for patients, staff members, and other customers.
- May travel to other clinics as part of additional duties.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma / GED required at time of hire.
- Completion of an MA program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, a national or state medical association, or an agency approved by the board.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required—or within 6 months of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire (American Red Cross or American Heart Association).
- Medical Terminology Certificate preferred at time of hire.
Qualifications
- 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
- 2–4 years of clerical/customer service experience, ideally in a healthcare-related industry, preferred.
- 1 year of experience with third-party payors and computer data entry/review preferred.
