About the role
The Medical Assistant Training Program at Children’s Wisconsin is designed for individuals passionate about working in healthcare. The program aims to prepare participants for a career as a Medical Assistant through comprehensive training and certification.
Responsibilities
- Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, maintaining records, and handling correspondence.
- Assist physicians during patient visits, including taking vital signs, preparing patients for exams, and assisting with diagnostic procedures.
- Administer medications and vaccines under supervision.
- Provide patient education and support.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Requirements
- Milwaukee County resident.
- Prior healthcare experience is required.
- Ability to work full-time, 40 hours/week.
- Availability to continue working as a medical assistant for 2+ years at Children's Wisconsin after completing the training program.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- TABE score equal to a 6th grade level in Reading & Math.
Qualifications
- A passion for wanting to work in healthcare.
- Willingness to learn and perform both blood draws and immunizations to pediatric patients.
- Ability to work with a diverse patient population to promote a culturally competent environment.
- Physical ability to lift and position patients weighing up to 75 pounds, as well as push and pull when performing cleaning functions.

18 to 20 weeks, Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday – Friday training program
Participants receive foundational coursework and training for a Medical Assistant Certification.
Classroom training located in person at Employ Milwaukee.
Clinical externship hours at a Children’s Wisconsin clinic.
