About the role

The role involves assisting in providing direct patient care under the supervision of healthcare professionals in an outpatient setting. Duties include identifying and meeting patient needs, reporting observations to the appropriate staff, documenting in patient charts, and performing clerical tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Performs direct patient assignments, applying skills within the scope of job responsibility.
  • Reports all pertinent observations and concerns directly to the RN, LPN, or Provider.
  • Documents in patient chart as appropriate for the realm of responsibility and per policy and procedure.
  • Affixes to rooming patients, completing appropriate forms, assessments, vital signs, and other tasks as directed.
  • Assists with clerical skills including use of computer, assembling charts, recording information, answering telephones, filing, scanning outside medical records, reconciling labs and diagnostic test results, and hospital or other consultation reports into the EMR.
  • Scans outside medical records, reconciles labs and diagnostic test results, hospital or other consultations reports into the EMR as appropriate under the direction of MA, LPN, RN or Provider.
  • Assists callers and visitors professionally, taking written messages, creating in-basket messages, or directly routing the caller/visitor to the appropriate person.
  • Performs and documents findings of quality checks to include refrigerator temperature, crash cart, diagnostic equipment, and eyewash as directed.
  • Schedules testing procedures for patients (i.e., x-rays, ultrasounds, mammograms, etc.) under the direction of MA, LPN, RN or Provider.
  • Completes on-the-job training, in-service education, and carries out specific job duties under the supervision of a certified medical assistant, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, or provider.
  • Scribes appropriate documentation into permanent office record consistent with policies and procedure for physician findings.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent OR currently a junior or senior level high school student AND enrolled in a Medical Assistant Program.
  • Current CPR certification upon hire OR obtained within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Medical Assistant Program.
  • High School diploma or equivalent OR currently a junior or senior level high school student AND enrolled in a Medical Assistant Program.
  • Current CPR certification upon hire OR obtained within 90 days of hire.

Skills

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Good medical terminology skills.
  • Strong typing skills/keyboarding.
  • Competency in clinical and technical skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of physician office computer systems such as EPIC or similar system.
