About the Role

This position is responsible for the success of the Medical Assistant program. The instructor must ensure a positive, upbeat, diversified, interesting, and active learning environment in both classrooms and labs, providing students with relevant and worthwhile experiences daily. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and implementing an effective instructional training program with an emphasis on quality hands-on labs. The instructor will guide, encourage, and enable students to develop into industry professionals.

Primary teaching hours are Monday–Thursday, 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with occasional Friday coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in daily lectures and quality hands-on lab-based instruction.
  • Create and update classroom syllabi, curriculum, lab experiences, and lesson plans to meet local industry needs and incorporate the latest technology and industry practices.
  • Develop and execute active and diverse learning experiences with a heavy emphasis on learning by doing, while maintaining a structured learning environment.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives and well-defined competencies for the program and all learning activities.
  • Prepare the classroom and lab for daily learning activities.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments in a timely manner.
  • Structure classes in Canvas to support student learning.
  • Observe, evaluate, and record students' performance and development, providing appropriate feedback. Conduct and document student reviews regularly.
  • Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing appropriate rules and procedures; involve Student Services when necessary.
  • Ensure objectives for all program students are reflected on each syllabus and match module sign-offs in the Student Information System (Northstar).
  • Ensure student retention, graduation, licensure exam success, and job placement, updating all student data in real-time in Northstar. Meet or exceed performance metrics established by the VP of Instruction.
  • Maintain integrity and confidentiality, adhering to FERPA requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry advancements and adjust the curriculum to prepare students for current industry needs.
  • Work with the department director, admissions, and recruiters to fill cohorts with capable students.
  • Develop and propose admissions standards with the department director and VP of Instruction to enhance student success.
  • Ensure safety standards comply with all College, local, City, State, and Federal guidelines.
  • Model a professional environment for students in the classroom and lab.
  • Schedule industry professionals for specialized presentations and training.
  • Supervise, recruit, train, support, and assist adjunct instructors as needed.
  • Actively participate in the department team and ensure the program meets COE accreditation standards.
  • Assist with biannual Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC) meetings and maintain communication with OAC.
  • Document, collect, and place Standard 2 criteria evidence into the COE program folder biannually.
  • Develop an active network of industry partners and assist students in obtaining employment.
  • Continuously improve teaching skills and technical knowledge through professional development.
  • Maintain inventory for instructional supplies and review program needs and budget with the program director.
  • Collaborate with the instructional team to develop, implement, and maintain curriculum maps and syllabi aligned with program outcomes and industry standards.
  • Design, coordinate, and assess work-based learning activities, ensuring they are correctly documented and meet accreditation requirements.
  • Ensure students and staff are treated respectfully and equally, reporting violations to HR or Student Services.
  • Comply with Dixie Tech Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industry experience required (can be a combination of Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, or Nursing experience).
  • NHA CCMA certification (or equivalent) required, or pass the CCMA exam within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Clinical experience: patient care, vitals, scribing, procedures, phone, point-of-care testing.
  • Instructional experience preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong knowledge of Google Suite.
  • Strong communications and presentation skills.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing 25 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.

Benefits

  • Fully paid medical coverage (College pays the costs of the medical plan and most of the costs of the dental plan).
  • Employer contributions to Health Savings Account ($1,950 per year for single coverage, $3,450 for double coverage, and $4,950 for three or more) without a match requirement.
  • Employer contributions to a 403(b) account, amounting to 20.4% of the employee's pay without a match requirement. Employees may make additional contributions.
  • Salaried employees do not pay Social Security taxes.
  • Employer-provided life insurance, AD&D, and LTD at no cost.
  • Paid holidays, as well as Christmas, Fall, Thanksgiving, and Spring Breaks, following the local school district schedule.
  • 15 days of paid vacation per year.

Pay

Competitive salary of $65,000–$70,000.
