About the role
The MEDICAL ASSISTANT, Student Health Services position within the Primary Care department assists with the confidential care of all students presenting to the health center. Duties include assisting with assessments, examinations, and treatment under the supervision of registered nurses, nurse practitioners, athletic trainers, and physicians. Responsibilities also involve executing tasks such as crutch teaching, dressing changes, EKGs, and splint/cast application. Additionally, the role involves maintaining and preparing rooms between patient procedures, assisting with equipment and procedure preparation, monitoring, stocking, and restocking supplies, performing point-of-care tests, collecting and labeling urine and blood specimens accurately, and administering vaccines as ordered.
Responsibilities
- Assist with assessments, examinations, and treatment under the supervision of healthcare professionals.
- Execute tasks such as crutch teaching, dressing changes, EKGs, and splint/cast application.
- Maintain and prepare rooms between patient procedures.
- Absorb and restock supplies as needed.
- Perform point-of-care tests, collect and label urine and blood specimens accurately.
- Administer vaccines as ordered by nurse practitioner/physician.
Requirements
- Certification as a medical assistant or certification as an EMT is required.
- Two years of college, or equivalent, or bachelor's degree preferred.
- A high school diploma with medical assistant training program certification or EMT/Paramedic certification may be considered.
- Three to five years of related experience preferred.
- Experience with administering all forms of vaccines, including reconstitution of live vaccines, is preferred.

Skills
