About the role
The Medical Assistant supports the practice with overall responsibility for maintaining efficiency of patient flow. They perform clinical duties such as maintaining universal precautions, rooming patients, taking vital signs, performing phlebotomy, administering vaccines, and performing treatments and procedures as ordered by the provider. Administrative duties include answering phones, scheduling appointments, preparing correspondence, and managing patient charts.
Responsibilities
- Greets patients and escorts them into exam rooms.
- Aid with procedures, including minor ones and wound care, under supervision.
- Takes vital signs and documents them.
- Assists with administrative tasks like greeting patients, scheduling appointments, and answering phones.
- Coordinates room rotations and assists with receiving test results.
- Cleans instruments and equipment following infection control guidelines.
- Maintains excellent customer service and fosters a collaborative environment.
- Ensures appropriate communication with staff and patients regarding schedule changes.
- Cross-trains to assist in covering the front desk team.
- Performs initial training on new employees, reviews departmental protocols, and prepares yearly evaluations.
- Participates in flu clinics and follows safety awareness guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Experience: Experience in a clinical setting preferred, ambulatory cardiology experience preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: BLS - Basic Life Support required, CMA - Certified Medical Assistant certificate preferred.
- Knowledge and Abilities: Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills; strong clinical judgment; good organizational and prioritization skills; ability to work as a team player; extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and English grammar; ability to react calmly in emergencies; ability to read, understand, and respond to detailed instructions; computer proficiency; ability to lead and take direction.
