Responsibilities
- Covers clinical offices based on operational need
- Assists in the examination of patients under the direction of a Physician
- Maintains smooth patient flow by accurately assessing patients' needs, through attention to physician orders, and properly scheduling and follow-up of tests and procedures performed on patient
- Acts as an intermediary between physician and patients when necessary to more appropriately use the physician time
- Cooperates in the cross training of this position to ensure coverage at all times
- Collects patient data to include record keeping to ensure chart is in order
- Logs appropriate procedures and tests
- Billing and patient charges are kept current
- Tick sheets are done accurately and on time
- Patient instruction-injections and scheduled medications are documented accurately
- Prepares Patients to include vital signs, charting, attends to the individual needs of the patient, prepares patient for minor procedures
- Ensures that patient has the correct consent information completed
- Demonstrates technical skills by following all safety policies and procedures involving patient care, i.e. injections, handling instruments, cleaning wounds, handling body fluids
- Practices good sterile technique involving minor surgical procedures and handling injuries, wounds, etc.
- Explains procedure to patient and family to gain cooperation, understanding, and to ease apprehension
- Prepares treatment room for examination of patients; assists physician with procedures; cleans examination rooms and sterilizes appropriate equipment after use
- Administers prescribed medication orally or by injection and documents time, dosage and route on patient chart
- Completes all documentation to ensure accurate medical records
- Affirms that physician has signed chart; reviews physician orders to verify that all orders have been carried out
- Returns patient charts to medical records
- Inventory and orders medical supplies and materials, as needed
- Travels between departments and facilities on an as-needed basis based on coverage requirements
- Responsible for ensuring all expired sample medications and patient supplies are discarded upon expiration date
Qualifications
- High School or GED required
- Graduate from a recognized medical assistant program required
- Two years experience working as a Medical Assistant in a multi-specialty group setting required
- Medical Assistant certification and current BLS required
Skills
