About the Role

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the physician with basic patient care and medical procedures, directing patient flow, maintaining inventory, and ensuring site lab compliance with Department of Health (DOH) regulations. This role provides unparalleled customer service to patients while adhering to established protocols and managing volume without compromising quality. Ability to float between clinic sites and providers is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the physician with basic patient care and medical procedures within the Medical Assistant (MA) scope of practice, including but not limited to: rapid strep tests, urinalysis (UA), EKGs, and procedure setups.
  • Perform patient blood draws.
  • Ensure Department of Health (DOH) compliance of site lab and exam rooms, including logbook maintenance, checking for expired medications and supplies, and proper handling of specimens.
  • Ensure the site is fully stocked with supplies.
  • Maintain a clean, courteous, and professional working environment.
  • Provide compassionate care to patients.
  • Assist with training and acclimation of new hire Medical Assistants.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program (CMA suggested) or Associates degree with a healthcare focus.
  • 4-6 months of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Ability to conduct EKGs.
  • Knowledge of third-party payor requirements preferred.
  • Strong aptitude for detail and ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using a PC and MS Office applications.
  • Flexible with a full-time work schedule, including weekends.
  • Positive attitude and ability to project this demeanor around others.
  • Passion for outstanding results and compassion for patients and colleagues.
  • Flexible and adaptable to work in a continuously evolving environment.
  • Team player with excellent communication and bedside manner.
  • Passion for helping others in an urgent care environment.

Skills

  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in computer use, including keyboarding and office equipment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to manage complex operations and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a busy, multidisciplinary setting with minimal supervision.
