About the Role

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, this position provides excellent patient care by performing or assisting in a variety of medical procedures and tests to support patient examinations and treatments. Responsibilities span clinical duties, patient interaction, and administrative tasks across physician practices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform or assist with medical procedures and tests, including vital signs, administering injections, venipuncture, EKGs, PFTs, immunizations, and drawing blood.
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting patients, answering phones, and directing callers appropriately.
  • Prepare examination rooms, stock supplies, and organize forms for physicals and other visits.
  • Collaborate with providers to assist in patient care, including collecting patient history, preparing patients and equipment, and documenting interventions, responses, and vital signs.
  • Assist with routine procedures such as gynecological exams, physicals, and office visits.
  • Handle telephone messages, return calls, and provide information as requested.
  • Register patients, verify and update demographic and insurance information, and ensure accurate claims filing.
  • Code diagnoses and procedures based on encounter forms completed by the physician/provider.
  • Scan, file, and process medical records according to practice guidelines.
  • Collect co-payments, deductibles, and other fees from patients prior to their departure.
  • Schedule patient appointments, make follow-up calls, and send appointment reminders.
  • Run necessary reports and complete end-of-shift sign-off procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of insurance, coding, billing systems, and scheduling processes.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and patients, both verbally and nonverbally, while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines, and maintain accreditation standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of experience as a Medical Assistant or Patient Care Tech, OR completion of one of the following programs: medical assistant, emergency medical technician, nurse assistant, licensed practical nurse, armed services medic, or patient care technician.
  • For clinics with Rural Health Designation: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalents, required within 6 months of hire.
  • For float positions: Willingness to travel to or between clinics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • Electronic medical record (EMR) experience.
  • One year of experience working in a medical office with multiple providers.
  • Previous experience in a medical office of the same specialty.

Schedule

Part-time, 40 hours per pay period.

Daily work times: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

No on-call requirement. No weekend shifts.
