About the Role
The Medical Assistant supports physicians in assessing, examining, and treating patients. Responsibilities include managing patient flow, performing diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, and recording vitals, as well as acting as a liaison to ensure patient satisfaction. The role also involves maintaining and ordering supplies for the practice area.
Responsibilities
- Escort patients to exam rooms and ensure proper identification.
- Perform and document vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history information.
- Maintain proficiency in using and documenting within information technology systems as required by scope of practice.
- Assist physicians with examinations and diagnostic procedures, including performing EKGs and venipuncture/injections.
- Adhere to HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
- Order clinical supplies to maintain inventory and ensure smooth office operations.
- Interact with co-workers, visitors, and staff in alignment with organizational values.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association must be obtained within 90 days of hire (Red Cross may be acceptable at some Pennsylvania locations).
- Experience in a physician office or other healthcare setting preferred.
- For New Jersey: Graduate of an accredited post-secondary medical assisting education program (minimum 330 hours of instruction, including training in intramuscular and subcutaneous injections).
- For internal Einstein applicants: Certification not required if currently in a Medical Assistant role with a hire date prior to 7/1/2024 when transferring within Einstein entities.
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Familiarity with medical office procedures.
Physical Demands
- Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, standing, and keyboard use.
- May require kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR as part of patient care duties.
