Medical Assistant Program Instructor

9-month, student schedule. Yearly evaluation.

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality classroom, laboratory and clinical instruction and experiences to high school students enrolled in the Medical Assistant Career & Technical Education (CTE) program. The instructor prepares students with the knowledge, technical skills, professionalism and certification necessary to pursue employment as entry-level Medical Assistants or continue their education in healthcare-related fields. The instructor creates a safe, engaging and industry-driven learning environment and approach that aligns with Commonwealth of Pennsylvania educational standards, industry certifications and workforce expectations.

Responsibilities

Instruction and Curriculum

• Develop and deliver engaging Lesson Plans that are aligned with state CTE standards and Medical Assistant competencies.
• Teach administrative and clinical medical assisting skills.
• Demonstrate proper use of medical equipment and clinical procedures.
• Integrate anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, infection control and medical/healthcare ethics into instruction.
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
• Utilize classroom technology and simulation equipment to enhance learning.

Clinical Skills Instruction

• Instruct and supervise students in the following areas:
  • Vital signs
  • Patient intake and history
  • Medical documentation
  • Medical terminology
  • Infection prevention and OSHA standards
  • Aseptic technique
  • Phlebotomy
  • Electrocardiograms (ECGs)
  • Medication administration principles
  • Specimen collection
  • Assisting with examinations
  • Sterilization procedures
  • Basic laboratory testing
  • CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS)

Classroom Management

• Maintain a safe, organized and professional laboratory environment.
• Enforce school policies and healthcare safety standards.
• Monitor student attendance, participation and academic progress.
• Maintain laboratory inventory and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA and Infection Control standards.

Student Assessment

• Develop written, practical and competency-based assessments.
• Evaluate clinical skills according to industry standards.
• Maintain accurate student records and grades.
• Provide timely feedback and academic support.
• Prepare students for industry certification examinations.

Clinical Partnerships

• Coordinate clinical experiences, internships or job shadowing opportunities.
• Cultivate relationships with local healthcare providers.

Professional Responsibilities

• Attend faculty meetings and professional development meetings.
• Maintain current industry credentials and certifications.
• Participate in curriculum review and program improvement.
• Assist with student recruitment, open houses and community outreach.
• Maintain compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Education CTE requirements and accrediting agencies.

Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related Health Sciences Education program of study or related field.
• Eligibility in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to obtain Career & Technical Education certification (or willingness to complete required training to obtain certification).
• Minimum three (3) years of recent clinical experience in a physician's office, outpatient clinic, hospital or other healthcare setting.
• Experience supervising or training staff preferred.
• Teaching or educational experience preferred.
• Experience preparing students for National Health Career Association (NHA), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) certification examinations.
• Experience with curriculum development and competency-based education.
• Possess current CPR/AED/BLS certification.
• Act 34 Clearance, Act 151 Clearance, FBI Clearance (all self-paid).
• Drug Screening (self-paid).
