About the role
The Medical Assistant/Procedure Scheduler role provides both clinical and administrative support within a team-based environment, promoting efficient and positive patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct patient care duties including but not limited to taking vital signs, assisting with examinations, and administering medications.
- Covers for physicians and advanced practice practitioners when needed.
- Coordinates and schedules procedures, manages provider schedules, communicates with patients regarding appointments and procedure preparation.
- Obtains necessary documentation and authorizations, ensures all pre-procedure requirements are completed in a timely manner.
- Serves as a key liaison between patients, providers, and clinical staff to support smooth office operations and continuity of care.
Requirements
- Current AAMA, NHA, AMT, NCCT, or NREMT certification preferred or achieved within one year of eligibility.
- Current BLS certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date.
- One year of experience as a Medical Assistant (without certification) or as a MaineHealth Clinical Team Assistant; or 6 months of experience as a certified Medical Assistant.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Graduated from an accredited vocational institution or community college in Medical Assisting with 160 hours of clinical experience completed; or completion of an Adult Education Medical Assistant program and 6 months of clinical experience in a practice setting; or 1 year of clinical experience in a multi-provider practice setting (equivalent experience will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis).
