About the role

Assists the physician and office staff with performance of patient care activities consistent with the established standards of nursing practice. Integrates Mercy’s philosophy of caring for the sick and suffering, respecting human life and dignity, and applying Christian values to all crucial human issues. Maintains a caring, friendly, personal, and professional approach in communicating with patients, families, visitors, and co-workers. Performs related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must actively maintain Medical Assistant (MA) certification
  • New hires must attend MA Clinic Academy training
  • Current MAs moving to Certified Advanced Medical Assistant title must complete MA competencies
  • For Hospital Outpatient Departments: BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of applicable patient care experience in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting
  • For non-HOD Clinics: BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with EHR systems and clinical documentation
  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Knowledge of common outpatient procedures and equipment
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and professional growth
  • Understanding of varying differences and behaviors among populations served

Work Environment

  • Outpatient clinical setting with frequent patient interaction
  • Requires standing, walking, lifting, and use of clinical equipment
  • Potential exposure to infectious materials; PPE provided

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Prolonged standing and walking during each shift
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
