About the role
Our Medical Assistants play a crucial role in restoring health and improving the quality of life for patients with chronic or slowly healing wounds. They work under the supervision of a provider or registered nurse, implementing established treatment programs using wound dressing materials within their scope of practice.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the implementation of established treatment programs in the use of wound dressing materials within the scope of practice.
- Participates in patient education and demonstrates techniques to patients and caregivers enabling proper care at home.
- Maintains a daily record of treatments used and progress made, reporting to the physician or nurse and assisting in minor surgical procedures.
- Assists as Scribe for providers where applicable.
- Takes detailed notes during patient visits, including wound assessments, lower extremity assessments, and procedures.
- Accurately applies basic medical terminology and techniques learned through training.
- Learns and adheres to HIPAA guidelines.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
- Reports observed or suspected safety violations, hazards, and policy and procedure non-compliance to the safety coordinator or other designated person.
- Assists with supply and equipment inventories to maintain stock levels and availability.
- Prepares rooms according to patient needs and procedure requirements.
- Assembles and provides properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments before starting a procedure.
- Aids in the proper and safe positioning of patients during procedures.
- Participates in data collection activities to support performance improvement.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED certification.
- CNA or MA with active license/certification in appropriate state.
- BLS AHA certification.
- Strong technical skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- One (1) year of experience in a healthcare setting.
