Medical Assistant - Primary Care

Responsibilities

• Rooming the patient
• Interview/update patient’s chief complaint, medical history, medication list, and take vitals
• Prepare patient charts a week in advance and verify benefits reports
• Scan documents to appropriate patient charts
• Ensure all rooms are stocked and clean before clinic, after each patient, and at the end of the day
• Refill patient medications as directed by a physician and obtain Pre-Authorization/Determination for medications
• Ensure that physician is in-network and authorized/up-to-date referral is in the patient's chart
• Assist the physician in the exam room with any wound care and/or procedures
• Follow up on calls/voicemails and document phone log/conversation
• Educate and inform the patient of any DI, labs, referrals, and procedures physicians might have ordered
• Schedule patients for upcoming appointments after the physician sees the patient
• Obtain authorization prior to sending any orders when needed
• Distribute faxes to appropriate team member(s) via main fax line
• Perform related duties as required

Requirements

• Certified or Registered Medical Assistant with a nationally recognized accreditation organization or a graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program
• Two years+ of experience as a Medical Assistant
• Bilingual in Spanish required
• Experience in a medical office or customer service environment preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer applications
• Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance billing preferred
