About the Role

The Behavioral Health Medical Assistant is an empathic individual with competent observational, clinical, critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to meet patient needs and contribute to a positive patient care experience and work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs intake triage, vitals, and assists patients with mental health screenings.
  • Provides support to Behavioral Health Providers and coordinates psychotropic medication requests for refill.
  • Documents vitals, screening, and patient history information as needed.
  • Performs injections.
  • Responsible for prior authorization of psychotropic medications.
  • Coordinates with clinic managers and front/back office services regarding psychiatric and counseling services.
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary by supervisors.
  • Abides and sustains workflow expectations established by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of focus, task-oriented.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse families and communities in a culturally sensitive, appropriate, and non-judgmental manner.
  • Comprehends fundamental medical terminologies in medical care delivery.
  • Previous behavioral health care or medical assistant experience preferred.
  • Works well under pressure and maintains a consistently pleasant and professional demeanor when communicating with the public and staff.
  • Able to maintain a calm and professional attitude even in crisis situations.
  • Ensures work assignments and information gathered are kept confidential and protects all patient and agency information.
  • Knowledgeable of and maintains HIPAA standards of privacy and confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and written skills.

Skills

  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, Word, Word Perfect, Access, and Internet.
  • Multi-tasking and well-organized with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Telemedicine clinic experience and knowledge of various telemedicine technologies preferred.
  • Experience working in or with a rural clinical setting with technicians, nurses, and physicians preferred.
  • Ability to provide basic technical support and triage more difficult problems to appropriate staff.
